Beijing  –   China Foreign Ministry on Thursday it supports dialogue with the United State on cyber security, after representatives from both countries met in Washington to discuss international cyberspace rules.

The ministry spokesperson, Lu Kang said at a regular news briefing that China is willing to make cyber-security cooperation a new highlight of bilateral relations.

“After reaching a consensus on cyber-security, China and the U.S. are trying to build trust and cooperate, a sign that both sides acknowledge their mutual interests and shared challenges and responsibilities,’’ Lu said.

Chinese and U.S. officials from various departments, including defence and the Foreign Ministry, attended the meeting on Wednesday to discuss international norms of state behavior, international law and confidence-building.

It was the first meeting of the Senior Experts Group on International Norms and Related Issues, a mechanism agreed in September.
