BEIJING – The Chinese Government says it is taking a clear stand against all forms of violent terrorism and dealing with major crimes to ensure social stability.
The Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CCPCC) Standing Committee, Yu Zhengsheng, stated at the opening of this year’s Political Consultative Conference in Beijing.
He called for the support of the party and the people in dealing with major crimes of terrorism to ensuring social stability.
He also appealed to members to support the achievements of the present government led by President Xi Jinping.
The chairman said a lot has been achieved in the area of diplomacy and transportation.
“We took a clear stand in opposing violent terrorism and supported the party and government in dealing with major crimes of terrorism and ensuring social stability.
“There is also an increasing understanding between China and other countries in seeking for better relations of mutual benefits,” he said.
Zhengsheng, however, told the delegates that its democratic oversight work still needed to be strengthened; its institutions and systems still needed improvement.
News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that no fewer than 3,000 journalists, 70 per cent of them foreigners, witnessed the opening of this year’s Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CCPCC) holding in Beijing amidst tight security.
NAN Correspondent, who witnessed the event, reports that all journalists who signified interest to cover the event were accredited.
Ten African journalists, currently in China for a tour of China as part of China’s exchange programme, had special invitation to attend the session.

NAN reports that all the roads leading to the venue of the event were manned by 5,000 security men with concealed light weapons.
It was also noticed that in spite of heavy traffic to the venue, it took less than 20 minutes to get to the venue due to the efficient traffic control by security operatives.
The event, which was strictly by invitation, took place at Beijing with over 2153 delegates of the CPPCC led by the country’s President Xi Jinping in attendance.
The CPPCC, which is the parliamentary arm of the party, has the responsibility of making suggestions to the party including over sight activities of government.
In 2014, the CPPCC made over 6000 proposals to the party out of which 26 per cent were implemented.
He told the gathering that 14 top hierarchy of the party within the year under review were expelled as a way of improving the party conduct, upholding integrity, and combating corruption.
NAN reports that the meeting of both the CPPCC and the National People’s Congress (NPC) would hold in Beijing next two weeks with the President attending the two sessions. (NAN)
