Yola – Adamawa Government has distributed cows to its ministries and parastatal agencies to be shared among their workers for the Christmas period.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that as early as 7 p.m., cows were slaughtered and shared among workers who queued for the exercise.

Some of the workers, who spoke on the development, commended the government for the gesture which they said was a sign of concern for workers welfare.

“This is a good practice; it was done during Sallah and now is for Christmas.

“I want to say a big thank you to the government and to urge it to sustain the practice,” Jummai Mamza, who is worker in the state Ministry of Works, said.

Ibrahim Ahijo, staff member of the Ministry of Finance; Satumari Yakubu, Umar Damare and Azumi Musa all of the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs office, lauded the government gesture.

They said it would help the workers to prepare for the yuletide.

“This development will help us a lot in the preparation for Christmas. In fact those with small number of families don’t need to buy meat.

“Government deserved our commendation not only for this meat but for early payment of December salary which was paid on the 16th of this month,” Yakubu said.

Commenting on the exercise, the state Commissioner for Information, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, said the gesture was the normal practice in the state.

“This is a caring government that is committed to workers welfare; we shall continue to do our best in spite of the cash crunch to support our workers,” Sajoh said. (NAN) (NAN)
