LAGOS – The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) on Tuesday appealed to the President-elect, Gen. Mohammad Buhari, to ensure full implementation of the Nigeria Tax Policy (NTP) on assumption of office.
The institute made the appeal in a congratulatory letter to the president-elect signed by the President of the Institute, Mr Tony Dike, and made available to newsmen in Lagos.
Dike, in the statement, congratulated Buhari on his victory at the polls, saying: “Your victory is a clear sign of the belief, trust and confidence that the good people of Nigeria have in you.
“Our institute has meticulously studied the laudable programmes encapsulated in the manifesto of All Progressive Congress (APC).
“The programmes include stabilisation of oil prices at 100 dollars a barrel and provision of free education to all, among others.
“We are urging you to give priority to diversifying the economy through the instrumentality of taxes during your tenure.
“Our Institute, having been involved in the formulation of the policy document, believes that the full implementation of the provisions has the potential to revolutionise the country’s tax system.”
The statement said that the implementation of the policy would serve as an effective galvaniser of resources needed for developmental programmes.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
CITN provides guidelines, rules and modus operandi that regulate the country’s tax system as well as form the basis for tax administration in the country developed in 2002. (NAN)
