Umuahia- The Abia command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Thursday called for effective collaboration with the PPMC in the fight against pipeline vandalism.
The Commandant, Dr Benito Eze, made the remark when Mr Abdullahi Gunda, the Area Manager of Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Aba Depot, visited him in Umuahia.
Eze solicited the PPMC’s assistance in the prosecution of vandals, saying that the conviction of suspected vandals would serve as deterrent to prospective offenders.

He explained that part of the assistance would include the provision of witnesses to testify during prosecution of suspects.
Eze also appealed to the company to assist the command with necessary logistics, especially vehicles to facilitate its operations.
He further urged the company to help in establishing a functional laboratory in the state for analysing petroleum products’ specimens.
“This singular assistance will go a long way in helping the command to prosecute cases of vandalism in the state,’’ he said.
Eze said that the command had put necessary machinery in place for the effective monitoring and protection of the pipelines in the area.
Earlier in his speech, the PPMC area manager underscored the need for closer ties between the two organisations to win the war against pipeline vandalism.
Gunda said that the company had ‘’retrieved and rectified’’ the pipelines from Port Harcourt to the Aba Depot.
He gave the assurance that products could now be pumped to the depot and beyond via the pipelines.
“This means that the presence of men of the NSCDC along the pipelines will be of great relief to the company,’’ Gunda said. (NAN)
