Ilorin –   The Imam of Al-Hilal Crescent Mosque, Ilorin,
Prof. Lanre Badmos, has challenged Muslim parents on proper upbringing of their children to curb the menace of cultism and other vices.

Badmos, who is also the Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, University of Ilorin, made the call in reaction to recent several cult-related killings in Ilorin.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ilorin that parents should provide their children with proper Islamic education and knowledge for them not to regret in this life and hereafter.

He said some Muslim parents had failed in providing sound Islamic education to their children that would make them responsible people in the society,

He warned parents to protect themselves and their children from the wrath of Allah.

He added that “there is need for parents to sit up and face their responsibilities; they must caution their children to curtail the menace of indiscipline and other vices
in the society.

“The reason I decided to focus on this was because of recent sad events that happened on the streets of Ilorin.

“A situation where young people in the name of cultism embarked on killing of one another as if they were not born by parents or their parents were not aware of the Islamic responsibilities.

“Indeed, Almighty Allah has warned us to make sure that we protect our lives and that of our children from hell fire and the Great Prophet of Islam and other scholars had emphasised the duties of parents.

“Any parent that failed to discharge his responsibilities would lose when looking forward for the obedience of the children when he or she was late.”

He added that the Ilorin community had been an epitome of discipline, peace and stability “and that was why many people that run into crisis elsewhere relocated to Ilorin because of its peaceful nature.”
