Lagos – The Chief Missioner of the Nasrul-Lahil-l Fath Society (NASFAT), Albdullahi Akinbode, on Wednesday urged parents to serve as role models to their children by nurturing and educating them to become useful citizens.
Akinbode gave the advice at the NASFAT 16th Annual Women’s Week, entitled: “Entrepreneurship: Re-moulding Women Perception,’’ held in Lagos.
According to him, the primary and divine duty of every woman is nurturing her children.
“Educating a child is a life-long project it is part of sensitising children.
“Parents should be conscious of their duties to Allah because He is ever watchful of their actions and deeds,’’ he said.
The cleric also advised children to learn from their parents, noting that Allah has given them good and dutiful parents.
“Children you are here to learn from people who have seen life, the best way you can learn is when you participate in the art of learning.
“Your parents gave you good food, they sent you to school so that you can be educated, by doing so, your parents are fulfilling the injunctions of nurturing and that is education.
“That is the first principal of Islam. If your parents have sent you to school the only reward you can give them is by excelling in your studies and becoming great in life.’’
He told children to be prepared and concentrate on their studies, saying that they would achieve that except they obeyed God.

Hajia Samiat Mumuni, NASFAT National Women’s Affairs Secretary, said that parents were the bedrock of the society.
“Mothers should be intimate with their children, it is what parents do that the children emulate, it behoves on them to enlighten their children.
One of the facilitators of the event, Mrs Khadijat Shobowale, a lecturer at the Lagos State University, urged parents to endeavour to chat regularly with their children even on trivial issues.
“Parents should communicate with their children in a calm tone, if in the course of communicating; you get annoyed, pause, empathise and consider their needs first.
“Find religious activities that bind you together, pray with them, express your love and be respectful to their wishes,’’ she added. (NAN)
