AKURE – A Catholic priest in Ondo Diocese, Rev. Fr. Anthony Afariogun, has advised parents to always bring up their children in the way of God.
Afariogun gave the advice on Saturday in Akure during a thanksgiving service and launching of two books, ‘Face to Face with Death’ and ‘Education under the State and the Church’.
The cleric urged parents to always play active roles in the upbringing of their children so that they would not become criminals in future.
“I am giving this advice because one of my books, ‘Face to Face with Death, ‘ is about my encounter with men of the underworld who kidnapped me and took me to rob a bank. [eap_ad_1] “Thank God that he spared my life as many people died during the robbery; I used the book to thank God for his saving grace,” he said.
Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Mr Dominic Adebusoye, described the event as a day of testimony.
“It is motivational for us to be closer to God and a testimony to the fact that the God we serve is a living one,” he said.
Earlier, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State had urged the clergy to pray against the spread of Ebola in Nigeria.
Represented by the Chairman, Ondo State Christians Welfare Board, Mr Lawrence Akinlolu, Mimiko urged people to avoid contact with victims of the virus and to always wash their hands with soap.
“People should avoid contact with the sweat of others; Churches should also avoid retreats and open crusades for now,” he said.
In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Clement Odia of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ifon, thanked God for saving the life of Afariogun . (NAN)
