Lagos- A catholic cleric, Rev. Fr. Paul Amenaghawon, on Sunday called for more care and concern for the elderly and aged especially during the yuletide.
Amenaghawon told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during a visit with little children to the homes of the elderly and the sick that the season should be an opportunity to show care.
“The elderly and the old people should be taken care of because they were responsible in building our society; a successful nation depends on the contribution of the elderly.
“The wisdom of the elderly should be tapped by the young and able-bodied youths by caring for them when they have become weak,” he said.
The cleric said that many people waited to celebrate the elderly and aged after death instead of giving them such glories in their life time.

“We should show all the care and love to our old people when they are a live and not throwing parties after they have departed, ” he said.
According to him, no one should disregard or despise the old and aged people in the society because they should reap the fruits of their labour at old age.
He said that a man who recognised the elderly ones would enjoy God’s favour as their prayers made a significant impact before God.
Fr. Amenaghawon told NAN that the season should be used to visit the sick, the needy and the elderly instead of eating, drinking and partying.
He then urged families to take care of their parents and aged by visiting them and sharing the good tidings of the season so that they could pray for them.
NAN reports that over 20 homes of the aged and elderly were visited along with Santa Clause and children who sang Christmas tunes to bring joy to them. (NAN)
