ABUJA – Representatives of the 20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) have rejected the July 20 commencement date for the second round of the 2013/2014 league season.
The League Management Company (LMC) had earlier fixed July 20 as commencement date for the second phase of the 2013/2014 NPFL season.
Aloy Chukwuemeka, Acting Secretary of the club owners’ representatives, told NAN that the decision was to enable the premier league clubs conclude their ongoing federation cup matches.
Chukwuemeka, however, told NAN in a telephone interview that the clubs would wait on the LMC to fix a new date for kick-off of the second round.
“As it stands, there are some clubs that have matches on July 17 and July 18 and we considered how difficult it will be for them to connect their league match venues. [eap_ad_1] “So, the LMC will fix a new date for the commencement of matches in the second phase.
“We had 17 out 20 clubs present at the meeting; Gombe United, Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves were absent.
“We reviewed the first round of the league where clubs identified some minor issues that need to be resolved and we agreed to forward it to LMC for consideration,’’ Chukwuemeka said.
He further told NAN that a meeting of both parties (LMC and Club Owners Representatives) took place in Abuja on Tuesday.
They met to enable them harmonise for a successful take-off and conclusion of the second round.
Chukwuemeka further told NAN that the meeting urged the football stakeholders to find amicable solution to the ongoing impasse in the Nigerian football.
He said the meeting urged all involved to abide by the rules guiding football and use internal dispute mechanism to resolve any issue.
The club owners also agreed to meet with the Minister of Sports, Tammy Danagogo, to discuss some of the issues hindering football development in the country. (NAN)[eap_ad_4]
