Electricity supply has been restored to Bayelsa State and parts of Rivers State following the successful reconnection of the 132kV Owerri-Ahoada transmission line by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
In a statement released on Sunday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the development. Naija News gathered that this restoration allows the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) to resume power distribution to affected areas that had been without electricity for 34 days.
The prolonged blackout started on March 11, 2025, after four towers on the transmission line—specifically towers 71 to 74—were vandalized, leading to their collapse.
According to the statement, TCN completed the reconstruction work and restored bulk power supply through the line by 6:00 pm on April 11, 2025.
With this progress, electricity supply is expected to normalize in Bayelsa and parts of Rivers State.
TCN emphasized its commitment to delivering stable electricity nationwide and appealed to local communities to support efforts in preventing vandalism of power infrastructure, stressing the importance of safeguarding national assets.
