KADUNA – Ubale Mohammed, a tennis coach attached to the National junior tennis team, on Wednesday said he was confident that the players selected to attend the upcoming African Youth Tennis Championship would perform well.
The event has been scheduled to hold from May 22 to May 31 in Botswana.
Mohammed told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that they had been training hard to improve on the performance of players in the build up to the tournament.
He said: “We want to play in finals this time around and win the trophy. We are known among the best in tennis and we want to maintain our position’’.
The coach said the players’ performance at a recently concluded competition in Kenya was commendable, as two of the players reached semi finals before losing to Egypt in the finals, while two others were eliminated in the quarter finals.
“Kaduna players are known for their good performance in the game of tennis as we were able to reach quarters and semis at the Kenyan tournament. We hope to play finals in the coming event’’.
He urged the players to work hard, so as to make the state and country proud.
Sylvester Emmanuel and Michael Michael both of who reached the semi finals, vowed in separate interviews that they would re-double their efforts to reach the finals and win the trophies at stake. (NAN)
