Lagos – A female football coach, Diana Asak, on Saturday urged football administrators to improve on the welfare of female footballers to attract more women at the grassroots.
Asak told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that such enhanced welfare package would make the club owners fulfill their own part of the contract with the players.
She urged the football authorities to adequately monitor the owners of football clubs, especially in the female league, to curb their excesses.
“Club owners must be made to wake up to their responsibilities by appropriate authorities which endorse them to operate both at the state and national levels.
“The major part of such agreement is the monthly allowances of the players which should not, by any situation, be delayed because as girls, they must take care of their personal needs.
“In fact, to make such monitoring more effective and operational, the authorities should mete out sanctions on any club owner who delays or refuses to pay their players at the due time,’’ Asak said.
She said that such a measure would create a sense of belonging to the female players, and will also encourage them to be more committed to their career.

“The girls will come out in their best form when their interest is being protected at every level, and that will shape the general structure of the sector,’’ the coach said.
Asak regretted that the female footballers were not getting the desired opportunity to enable them to show their skills due to inadequate competitions.
“The competition forum for our females to display their talents is not just there, and we must continue to repeat this issue because it is affecting their growth,’’ she said.
The coach urged parents and guardians of female footballers to support them morally and financially to enhance their concentration and career growth. (NAN)
