LAGOS – Jide Abidoye, a former coach of the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA), on Thursday urged the body to organise a training programme for journalist to enhance their coverage of the sport.
Abidoye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that by so doing the training would provide the media with the requisite skill and understanding to popularise the sport.
He added that it was only through massive publicity that the sport could gain further acceptance in the country.
“Most of the press men are not too sound with the terminology of the game.
“Commentary on baseball match is run by the journalist exactly the same way they run their commentary in football.
“So, journalists have to be trained it is very important because publicity is money.
“So, getting the pressmen engaged, I believe will popularise the sport,’’ he said.
The coach appealed to private bodies and individuals to continue to support the development of the sport in the country. (NAN)
