Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja has assured wounded soldiers in the Plateau unrest that their medical welfare will be well taken care of.
Lagbaja said in a situation where their medical conditions required treatment abroad the military command will not hesitate to do so.
The COAS stated this on Wednesday in Jos, during the visit of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where the wounded soldiers are receiving treatment.
The hospitalised soldiers sustained injuries during the ongoing operation in Mangu LGA of the State, tagged Operation Hakorin Damisa IV, set up by Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a task force mandated to restore peace in the State.
However in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the Operation, Capt. James Oya, the GOC who doubles as the Commander of the OPSH said the wounded soldiers will recover quickly owing to the concerted effort of the high military command and the defense headquarters.
According to him: “I assure you of adequate medical treatment that would enable you to recover quickly from the injuries sustained. He said
“The nation is proud of your selfless service and continued sacrifices toward maintaining peace in the country.
“The COAS has directed that comprehensive medical care is imperative, including further medical therapy overseas should the need arise.
“The welfare of troops is of utmost importance to the COAS”, the GOC said.
