Code of Silence released on irokotv.com

Code of Silence, the recent Emem Isong movie which was premiered at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos has been released on leading online television, irokotv.com, the producers have said.

An entertaining commentary on society’s attitude to the incidence of rape and victims of rape, the movie is jointly produced by Isong’s Royal Arts Academy and Nollywood Workshops.

Code of Silence, full of doses of the comedic in spite of the graveness of the issue it discusses, is the story of a teenage university girl who was raped by an old political actor in her community and one of his aides. The chief rapist did not stop at just defiling the otherwise happy and easy-going girl,he threatens death upon her family and friends if she ever reveals the encounter to anyone. Going ahead to break the silence imposed on her by the old man is what spirals into the confusion that hits the community in the aftermath of the evil done the innocent girl.

Makida Moka, a new entrant into the industry gives a good account of herself as Adanma, the young girl who, after suffering trauma, sees her world fall apart. Her exuberance and joie de vivre in the early part of the movie is convincingly real and so is her descent into darkness in the latter part. Tall and lithe of frame, she is a commanding screen presence.

Another new comer, Bimbo Peters, who plays Dunni is a delight too whether talking trash or lending a strong shoulder to her bosom friend. She delivers.

Patience Ozokwor and Amechi Muonagor, who combine to provide appreciable comic relief are two of the well-known faces. Other A list members of cast include Desmond Elliot, Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli, and Shawn Faqua. The story is written by Bola Aduwo and directed by Emem Isong.
