LAGOS (SUNDIATA POST)- The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has dissociated itself from the proposed national protest and demonstration, saying, “through collective efforts Nigeria will no doubt be great again”.

Dr Emeka Rollas, National President of the guild, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said this resolution was made during the guild’s national congress.

According to Rollas, the congress was attended by members from over 20 state chapters.

“The congress has dissociated the guild from the proposed national protest and demonstration from Aug. 1, 2024.

“The congress states that actors are ambassadors of peace, role models and mirror of the society and will not embark on street protest as we always use our movies as effective medium to demonstrate and protest against economic, political and other ills in the society.

“The nation is presently in critical situation that requires collective and unparalleled commitment, tenacity of purpose, perseverance, patriotism and other exemplifying inclinations that will help propel political and economic growth,” he said.

Rollas, however, appealed to all members of the guild nationwide not to participate in the proposed protest, saying it will disrupt the daily activities of hardworking Nigerians.

He said the congress recognised the right of peaceful protests devoid of violence but previous protests had always been marred by violence. (NAN)
