JOS (Sundiata Post) – Former Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State, has asked successor, Simon Lalong, to suspend his foreign trip and return home to tackle the growing insecurity in the state.
Jang, representing Plateau North in the Senate, while reacting to last Tuesday’s shooting of nine persons at Rim Diyan community junction in the Riyom Local Government Area of the state, expressed disappointment that Lalong insensitivity to the killings was akin to a king chasing rats while his household was on fire.
Jang, in a statement by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, described the killing as a “wicked act in these precarious times.”
He demanded that the Federal Government should organise a national conference to discuss the attacks on farmers by herdsmen, who he said “are now arguably more deadly than Boko Haram.”
Lalong left the state more than a fortnight to attend a fundraising for internally displaced persons in the state, where an award was conferred on him by the Plateau State indigenes in the United Kingdom.
Jang, who also joined the fray for the banning of open grazing by cattle rearers in the state , said it had been responsible for the crisis between herdsmen and indigenes and the wanton killings and destruction in the state.
Jang expressed belief that “one day, the merchants of evil, who are terrorising the Middle Belt and other parts of the country, will be brought to justice.”
