KANO – Commercial bus operators in Kano metropolis have expressed concern over what they described as “dwindling fortune” of their business in the city. Some of the drivers told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the ban on commercial motorcycles and the introduction of tricycles by the State Government had adversely affected their business.
According to them, most of their passengers, especially women who used to patronise them, had now stopped due to the large number of tricycles being used for commercial purpose in the city.
“Since the introduction of tricycles for commercial purpose women stopped patronising us because they prefer boarding tricycles now’’, one of the bus drivers, Ma’awiyya Na’ibi, told NAN.
Na’ibi, who operates between Sabon Titi and Rijiyar Zaki, complained that he hardly made N2,000 a day, unlike before when he made N5,000 daily.
“Since the state government banned the use of motorcycles and introduced tricycles, women stopped patronising us; they prefer tricycles,” he said.
Another bus operator, Malam Bukar Maishanu, who operates at Yankura market, said that some of them had relocated to states where tricycles were not being used for commercial purpose.
“At times, I leave home by 12 noon due to the situation we now find ourselves in.
“Before I used to make more than N8,000 per day, but now I hardly make N5,000 a day because of the low patronage,’’ Maishanu said. (NAN)
