Sokoto –   The Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission on Thursday disbursed about N12.6 million to hospitals and pharmaceutical shops for the treatment of indigent patients across the state.

The Chairman of the commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki, who stated this while distributing the money in Sokoto, said the gesture was aimed at ensuring a healthy society.

“This disbursement has been a continuous programme since the inception of Gov. Aminu Tambuwal-led administration in the state.

“The government is fully committed to improving the health status of the needy and in general, the entire people of Sokoto, as such maintain its support in this capacity,’’ Maidoki said.

The chairman commended the partners, pharmaceutical shops and hospitals, for their support and dedication in ensuring the success of the programme.

He called on beneficiaries to judiciously use the money for what it was meant for and sustain their support and prayers for the success of the programmes and government at large.

In another development, Gov. Tambuwal has approved the appointment of Maidoki as the substantive Chairman of the Commission.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the approval was contained in a letter of appointment, dated July 19, and signed by the Secretary to Sokoto State Government, Prof. Bashir Garba. (NAN)
