Lagos – The Zone 2 of the Nigeria Police on Friday began camping the 600 athletes that will represent at the 2016 Nigeria Police Games from March 14 to March 27.
The zone’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adebowale Lawal, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the athletes were being camped at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.
He said that they would be camped for 10 days before departing for the 11th edition of the Games holding at the National Stadium, Abuja.
According to Lawal, the camping is to adequately prepare them as the defending champions of the competition.
“We embarked on the camp to further strengthen their skills and our medal winning prospects.
“They are skillful in their various sports but we still have to train them to get the best result.
“The essence is to look out for their errors and correct them. They will also blend with others in camp for better performance,’’ he said.
NAN reports that 28 sports, including athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, dart, golf, squash, kickboxing, swimming, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo and karate will feature at the he Games.
Others are judo, wrestling, weightlifting, rugby, hockey, football, polo, basketball, volleyball, handball, scrabble, tug of war, wushu kungfu, cycling and shooting.
The Games will kick off with team events elimination from March 14 to March 17.

The sports for the eliminations are rugby, tug of war, volleyball, football, handball, basketball and hockey.
Hockey and rugby will have only male participants.
The Games proper will commence on March 18 with 12 zones and the Force Headquarters taking part. (NAN)
