Abuja – Mr Adolphus Ekpe, the Director-General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), on Monday said that the commission was committed to empowering youths through its scheme.
Ekpe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the Federal Government had mandated the commission to contribute to the development of the nation through its various projects.
“Lottery is a game of chance in which people pay for the opportunity to win prizes.
“Part of the money realised from lottery is used to reward the winners and pay the costs of administering the lottery.
“ The left over is usually regarded as the profit which the commission uses to provide social facilities in public places,’’ he said.
Ekpe who promised to enforce standards, guidelines and rules for the operation of national lottery, said the commission was poised to regulate the business in a professional way.
He called on Nigerian youths to tap into the lucrative lottery industry, adding that doing this would open other opportunities for them to live a fulfilled life.

“ It is worthy of note that several Nigerians have benefited from lottery since its inception.
“ Some Nigerian youths have won trips to watch matches outside the country, a final year student in 2012 won an aircraft and got a monetary equivalent of N64 million.
“ Several Nigerians have also won houses across the country and many others have benefited in one way or the other from the good courses,’’ he said.
The D-G said that lottery was a way of distributing and redistributing wealth, employment generation and also funding of government projects for good causes.
He called on Nigerians to support the commission so that it could attract new investments into the nation’s lottery industry.
Ekpe said that the commission was ready to work with investors in order to give lottery business prominence in the country. (NAN)
