ABUJA – Dr Femi Ogunsola, the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Commissioner representing Kwara State, on Friday advised Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adhere strictly to FCC’s employment principles to avoid being sanctioned.
The commissioner said that labour leaders in various MDAs were being enlightened on the commission’s employment principles through sensitisation workshops and pamphlets printed by FCC.
Ogunsola, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, also spoke of the need for labour leaders of organisations to be updated on the role of the commission in preventing disputes.
“If you know the role of Federal character you discover that sometimes you don’t have a dispute when they now say okay they needed to employ five people and those five people should come from the South-South.
“That is why we are also involving the unions to sensitise their labour leaders.

“For example, if there is a Federal Polytechnic, Offa, and you discover that the three quarters of the people they are employing are from Kwara, because of the geo-political location of the institution, it is wrong.“
Ogunsola, who is also the FCC Labour Committee Chairman said the commission had been charged with the responsibility of ensuring that geo-political zones under-represented in any of the MDAs were given their due slots.
He expressed satisfaction with the workshop organised by the commission for the Federal Ministry of Labour and its union.
He said that the workshop helped to avert disputes related to recruitment of new workers into the MDAs.
The labour committee chairman said it was his expectation that there would be no dispute in any organisation owing to prior knowledge acquired from the workshop organised by the commission.
“My committee has enlightened its members to ensure full compliance with the commission’s principles,“ he said. (NAN)
