Port Harcourt – The Commissioner for Sports in Rivers, Mr Boma Iyaye, on Monday charged Rivers United FC officials and players to win the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title.
This is contained in a statement issued by Sammy Wejinya, Special Adviser on Media to Iyaye, in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Iyaye gave the charge while addressing officials and players of the team when they returned from Warri, Delta.
Rivers FC defeated Warri Wolves FC 1-0 in an NPFL match on Sunday.
The statement said the commissioner urged them to reciprocate the gesture of Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers by winning the 2015/2016 NPFL title.
According to the statement, Iyaye said that Wike has shown he is a man of action and words by ensuring that that their priority is at the top burner.
“I am urging you all to reciprocate this commendable gesture by ensuring that you go all out to win this season’s NPFL title.
“If this feat is achieved, it will go a long way in putting smiles on the faces of Rivers people and also justify the huge investment in the club,” Iyaye said.
Rivers United FC is currently 6th on the NPFL log with 25 points from 15 matches and three points below league leader, Enugu Rangers. (NAN)
