ABA – Mr Ibrahim Adamu, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, said on Tuesday that the inauguration of a Rapid Response Squad was aimed at strengthening security.

Adamu said this while addressing policemen during the squad’s inauguration at the premises of the Mobile Police Force Squadron 55, in Osisioma, Ngwa Local Government Area.

The CP said that with the way the plan was made for the establishment of the squad, he was sure that the squad would work to strengthen security of lives and property.

“The squad came up to ensure that we have to improve on championing peace and security in the command, as we must rise up to address the security challenges, especially in Aba. “This is why we feel that there should be a marching squad that can withstand any group of criminals or any form of crime within the command.

“Am sure that the response time will be the shortest possible time to any distress calls.

“The composition of the squad, coupled with what is on ground now, I have confidence in the squad.

“Am sure that crime will soon become a thing of the past in Aba. I assure the squad of all the assistance it will need to ensure that it functions effectively,” he said.

Adamu disclosed that the command had provided a brand new Hillux van and some crime-fighting equipment for the squad to start its operations in earnest.

Also speaking at the inauguration, the Squadron 55 Commander, CSP Wilson Dankwano, said that the idea of establishing the squad was a laudable one.

He said that the two weeks of rigorous training for members of the squad had impacted positively on their ability to fight crime with a great measure of success. (NAN)
