Lagos – The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr AbdulLateef Abdulhakeem, on Tuesday charged faith-based organisations to complement the government’s efforts in employment generation.
Abdulhakeem spoke during a courtesy visit by the Conference of Islamic Organisations to his office in Alausa, Ikeja.
The Commissioner urged them to engage in investment and businesses to generate employment.
“Apart from going to Mosques or Churches to pray, we must now begin to do what is done abroad.
“If you go abroad, majority of the businesses there, established by religious organisations, generate employment for so many members of the society.
“Therefore, investors should begin to emerge from among faith-based organisations,” he said.
Abdulhakeem said that generating employment was also part of religion.
He also charged religious leaders to take responsibility for moulding the character and behaviour of their followers.
Abdulhakeem decried the rate of lawlessness in the society, urging people to imbibe the tenets of their religion.
“I urge all religious leaders to use the pulpit to guide and direct the behaviour of their members to be law abiding and not law breakers,” he said.

Earlier, Imam Abdullahi Shuaib, Lagos Coordinator of Conference of Islamic Organisations urged the state government to make use of religious leaders in driving policies.
“Let us begin to engage the Imams and scholars to drive government’s policy,’’ he said, noting that that government could use them to reach the grassroots. (NAN)
