Dutse – A Community Leader, Malam Ado Musa, on Thursday called on Jigawa Government to support extensive irrigation farming to boost agricultural production in the state.
Musa, the Village Head of Warwade Village in Dutse Local Government Area, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
He noted that supporting irrigation farming would mitigate the effect of past flooding that had affected the state’s food production.
Musa lamented that flooding had adversely affected agricultural productivity in the state, thereby posing a threat to its food security.
The community leader said that only massive dry season farming could cushion the effect of low food production being recorded.
According to him, the gesture would make agriculture attractive and reduce urban-rural migration among youths.
Musa, therefore, appealed to the government at all levels to support extensive dry season farming to boost food production.
He reiterated his call on youths in the area to take advantage of the dam in the area to embark on dry season farming.
“I am again, advising our youths to stay at home and make good use of the dam by engaging in dry season farming.

“They do not have to go to other states or towns in search of greener posture.
“The dam has the capacity to provide the youths with more than what they get in those places,’’ he said.
NAN reports that farmers in Warwade community embark on all year round farming using the Warwade Irrigation Scheme. (NAN)
