UYO (Sundiata Post) – The people of Afaha Ikot Akpan Nkpe in Onna local government area of Akwa Ibom State during the yuletide period came together to organise a launch for the completion of their civic centre as well as the provision of electricity in the area.
Organised by the community’s development committee, the fund raising was held on a day set aside by the community to celebrate its day which included traditional dances, songs and a football match among the various families in the community.
Speaking during the launch, Akpan Evanson, the village head, expressed happiness over the decision by indigenes of the community both at home and outside the area to come together for the purpose of raising funds for the completion of the civic centre and for the providing of other development projects in the area.
According to him, 28th December of every year has been set aside for the celebration of the community’s day, saying without the people coming together and taking the development of their community in their hands, not much can be achieved.
He thanked the women and youths as well as all indigenes of the community for deciding to work with the village council to complete many of the ongoing projects in the area.
Also speaking, Raymond Inyang, a community leader and village head of Awa Ndon, commended indigenes of the area over the celebration of their day set aside for fund raiser that would enable them complete their development projects.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Inyang, who also delivered a talk on communal unity, noted that the community which boasts of professionals in various disciplines including medicine and engineering both in Nigeria and abroad urged them to rise together to develop their community.
“Let us ask our professionals to come together and think of what activity they can do for the community, do not wait for government to develop your community,’’ he said.
He urged youths in the community to be part of the development programme as they are the future leaders.
In his remarks, Mbotidem Udonquak, a consultant anaesthetist thanked the state governor, Udom Emmanuel for the reactivation of the electricity in the community but appealed for the completion of a link road between the community and Iwor Etor in Etinan local government area.
An undisclosed amount of money was realised during the ceremony.
