He said the waste materials used to develop the product included plastic bottles, nylon, silt and polythene, adding that the product was water and heat resistant.
Expiray, a graduate of Geology from the University of Lagos, added that the new product would be used to fill pot holes on highways and has a projected life span of 25 years.
He commended the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for the opportunity given the company to test the product on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
“We wrote to FERMA to allow us to test run and they obliged us; we believe that after their assessment they would give the Polycrete Asphalt approval to be used on highways.
“Laboratory analysis confirmed that the product can resist heat and water and it is cost effective.
“We are looking at total road maintenance; we use pet bottles, pure water nylon, polythene and silt swept from the road to process it, and it is durable for road construction and rehabilitation,’’ he said.
Mr Kehinde Afolabi, the engineer in charge of highway at FERMA declined comment on the product.
“We only gave them a portion of the road to test their material, it is not for us to assess,” he said. (NAN)
