LAGOS – The Atlantic Shrimpers Limited, an aquatic production company,on Friday donated a utility vehicle to enhance the operation of the Federal Department of Fisheries (FDF) liaison office in Lagos.
Mr Kamlesh Kabra, the Managing Director of the company, said at the presentation in Lagos that the logistic would enhance fishery production to guarantee food security.
He noted that the Federal Government had recorded laudable achievements in reducing the rate of hunger through its agricultural transformation agenda.
He recognised the role of the Department of Fisheries in developing value chain for fishery production in the country, adding that private sector support would increase its efficiency.
“This department has been actively involved in the food security agenda of the Federal Government.
“Our company, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, decided to provide this utility van to cater for the logistics of effectively running the department,’’ he said.

Mrs Olabisi Adepegba, the Deputy Director of the FDF, said that the fishery industry ought to be boosted through Public-Private Partnerships because of its relevance in food business.
Mr Sola Amire, the President, Nigerian Trawler Owners Association (NITOA), remarked that government agencies, in charge of fishery production, have been grossly underfunded.
He underscored the enormity of the department’s responsibility in food production and supply.
Amire lauded the effort of the donor company towards addressing one of the major challenges confronting the FDF.
He also expressed optimism that the vehicle would be utilised for the efficiency of the department.
In his own remarks, Mr Remi Abioye, the Director of Fisheries, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, called for collaboration of stakeholders in the sub-sector towards ensuring adequate fishery production and supply.
He also called for a media projection of the sub-sector as a viable and lucrative one that could stimulate employment opportunities. (NAN)
