Abuja – A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old conductor, Chinedu Ossai, to two months imprisonment for assault, criminal force and causing grevious hurt.

The convict, who resides at Jabi Daki-Biu, Abuja, pleaded guilty to the charges when the three-counts were read to him.

The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other potential offenders.

Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of a N10, 000 fine.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Roko, had told the court that the matter was reported by one Felix Orogun, of Delta line transport company, Jabi.

Roko said that the case was reported at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on Aug. 4.

He said that the convict assaulted the complainant by using force on him, and eventually inflicted injury on his face, due to a little misunderstanding.

Roko said that the convict begged for mercy– that it was the devils’ work, and that he was under the influence of alcohol, promising to be of good behaviour henceforth.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 265, 262 and 247 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
