Addis Ababa, – The third conference on “Financing For Development” opened on Sunday in Addis Ababa with raising of commemoration flags.
A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent covering the conference reports that Margaret Novicki, the Conference Spokesperson, briefed accredited journalists on essential substantive and logistical information for the conference.
President Mulatu Wirtu of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia led other top UN officials to raise the flags which took place at the Lawn outside the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Conference Centre in the Ethiopian capital.
The conference proper would start on Monday with the launch of renewed and strengthened global partnership for financing people-centered sustainable development.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
According to Novicki, the conference will look at all sources of finance for sustainable development to ensure that resources go where they are needed most.
“The conference is also aimed at promoting economic prosperity and improving health, education and employment opportunities while protecting the environment.
“The outcome of the conference will be an important milestone on the road toward the adoption of new sustainable development agenda in September.
“It will also prepare ground for universal climate change agreement conference coming up in Paris in December.’’ (NAN)
