ILORIN – An agricultural expert, Dr John Fajemisin, said on Friday that the involvement of youths in agriculture would boost food production and help develop the sector.
Fajemisin is a consultant of the Maize Value Chain at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan.
He made the observation in Ilorin at the end of the Kwara Youths Training and Empowerment programme on the use and maintenance of knapsack sprayers.
He said that the programme was initiated by the Federal Government in conjunction with the state government, to ensure the success of the Agricultural Transformation Agenda.
He commended the interest and enthusiasm of youths who attended the programme, which, he said was aimed at empowering them to make profit and make farming less cumbersome.
In a remark, Mr.Buhari Adebisi, the Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Kwara, said experts were on ground to demonstrate the proper use of the Knapsack in spraying agro-chemicals. (NAN)
