Lagos- The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mr Godwin Eke, on Tuesday said indiscipline among most motorists had led to the damage of road shoulders on the nation’s highways.
Eke told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the strength of the road shoulder on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was being increased to guard against misuse.
“As a result of indiscipline, Nigerians tend to drive on the road shoulders any time they have little problem on the main carriageway
“That is one of the reasons why we are reconstructing the road because people drive on the shoulder instead of driving on the main carriageway. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]
“In that process, any time they have small gridlock they move over to the shoulder and damage the shoulder.
“Meanwhile, we are reconstructing from Sagamu Interchange and it is a step- by-step thing
because of this, the new construction we are doing, the same design we have on the main carriageway is the same design we have for the road shoulder just in case they decide to drive on the shoulder again, it would not be damaged because it would have the same strength; the main carriageway extends to the shoulder, the same design.
“In future if they even decide to drive on the shoulder, they would not damage it.
