LAGOS – Ramiro Amarelle, Captain of Barcelona FC of Spain beach football team, on Saturday attributed the team’s victories in the ongoing Copa Lagos competition to their experience over others.
Barcelona FC defeated Stationary Stores FC of Lagos, 6-4 in the second game of the competition having spanked Pepsi Academy, 7-3 a day earlier.
Amarelle told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the match that the team was well prepared for the competition and was growing in confidence.
“We are happy to be here, the competition has been worthwhile and victories have come through our experience in the game.
“We play in the top Beach Football league in Europe and not the regular football known to our opponents; so we play more games and adapt easily to the techniques needed,’’ Amarelle said.
Meanwhile, Tyson Ojukwu of Stationary Stores FC said that they fell to the superiority of Barcelona because of experience.
“Barcelona is more experienced than us; we play the regular football and are very new to beach football.
“However, we gave a good fight in the match and enjoyed playing against an international side. We hope to do better in the next edition,’’ Ojukwu said.
In another match played at the Eko Atlantic in Victoria Island, the venue of the competition, Senegal thrashed Ghana, 5-2 to record their first victory.
NAN reports that the competition which began on Friday Dec. 12 with eight teams competing will end on Sunday Dec. 14. (NAN)
