Abuja- The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria ( COREN) on Monday said it would crackdown on quacks in the nation’s engineering profession.
The President of COREN, Mr Kashim Ali, said this at the 2013/2014 graduation ceremony of National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) graduate skills development programme.
“The days of quacks in the engineering profession are numbered as the council will be sitting very soon to try erring engineers,’’ he said.
He said that all emerging engineering firms must be registered before they practice in the country.
Ali said the council was collaborating with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) toward enhancing the salary of engineers in the country.
He urged the new graduates to abide by the ethics of the profession and make use of the skills they had acquired during the training.
“You must demonstrate that the money spent on you was not a waste,’’ he said.
Ali said that inspectors in the sector would monitor the activities of the graduands to ensure that they apply the skills they acquired during their training.
He said that for Nigeria to attain its full potential and become one of the top economies in 2020 there should be tremendous improvement in power supply.
Ali said that the training initiated by NAPTIN was critical to the success of the nation’s power sector. (NAN)
