Abuja – The Society for Promotion of People’s Right, an NGO, on Wednesday urged the federal and state governments to provide more testing machines for coronavirus in all the states in the country.
Mr Williams Osaze, the President of the NGO, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Osaze said that the machines should be provided at least three in every local government areas in all the states including the FCT, in addition to more medical experts that would operate the machines.
He said that isolation centres should be provided in those areas in case the number of people tested positive increased so they could be quarantined in the centres.
He said that the effort would help to know the health status of people and ensure that the fight against coronavirus improved across the country.
According to him, the provision of the testing machines in various states will help to identify those who have the disease.
“If anyone is tested positive, he or she can be separated from the negative ones as soon as possible to avoid more spread of the disease.
“We are not praying for more positive cases but prevention is always better than cure.
“We should always be on the safe side to avoid having more cases of positive patients and losing more lives.
“When all these actions are being put in place, I believe there will be effective improvement in the fight against coronavirus in the country.’’
Osaze also urged all the religious leaders to support their members by providing food items, money and other things in ensuring that they stay saved.
He said that most religious leaders were not really helping their members, adding that their welfare should be their concern.
He advised the government at all levels to ensure that the health workers were being provided with clinical facilities and offer them life insurance.
“The reason is because these experts are exposed to health challenges and need to be insured in case anything happens to them, their families can be covered.
“I am not saying that they will die in the course of the job. After all, we are all praying for them but sometimes their lives are at risk,” he said.
