Corporate bodies urged to give scholarship awards to talented youths

LAGOS – Mr Bernard Omuetha, a music producer, on Wednesday urged corporate bodies to encourage the development of talented youths in the singing profession, through scholarship awards.
Omuetha told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that many Nigerian youths were talented but lacked the required funds needed to develop their talents.
He said that many youths could rise to the zenith of their chosen careers if they were not encouraged with the necessary funds.
The producer also called for the establishment of academies where exceptionally talented youths could be trained on the art of dancing, singing and modeling.
He expressed the hope that products of the academy would be able to compete with their foreign counterparts and boost the image of the nation’s entertainment industry.
Omuetha said that the academy could train youths in Jazz, Hip-hop, Salsa, African dance, Argentine tango and creative dance, among others.
He stressed that music was a key part of creativity that could be developed with good education, awards and relevant training, to boost the entertainment industry.
“By so doing, the entertainment sector will be awash with talents in different shapes and sizes.
“Most of the great talents that are strutting their stuff today in the entertainment sector in America and Europe were provided with the necessary support to spur them to where they are today,’’ he said.
Omuetha said that the entertainment sector was a multi-million naira industry, which If well exploited, could further boost the nation’s GDP.
He urged the government to partner with corporate organisations to identify and assist talented youths to achieve their career objectives. (NAN)
