Minna – No fewer than 30 indigent people have benefited from a free eye surgery programmed provided by a Youth Corps member, Dr Uwaeze Ikesinachi, in Minna, the Niger capital.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the surgery tagged “You can see again”, was conducted on Thursday at the General Hospital Minna, as a personal community development service.
Ikesinachi said that the surgeries were part of his desire to benefit the indigent through his calling.
“I am an eye specialist and in that regard I know the basic need of my patients, and I feel their pains and that is the basic motivation behind everything I do.
“If you take a look at the patients here, you will see that some of the blindness can be treated but most of them are penniless and helpless.
“Some others are languishing in ignorance as they don’t even know they can get remedy for their ailments,” he said.
Ikesinachi, who said the exercise cost him a fortune, disclosed that professional colleagues and consultants were assisting in the project.
He added that a blind 10-year-old, Mr Umar Awwal, who had been suffering from congenital cataract has been cured of the ailment.
NAN reports that the corps member is a graduate of Abia State University, Uturu, currently serving at the General Hospital, Minna. (NAN)
