Lagos – Monsignor Gabriel Osu, Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, on Friday said that the feast of Corpus Christi is a very important one for the church.
He said this in a statement issued ahead of the celebration of the feast by catholic faithful on Sunday.
Osu said that catholic faithful in Nigeria would join others worldwide to mark this year Solemnity of Christ the King (Corpus Christi) celebration with several activities.
“The feast of Corpus Christi celebrates the gift of the Eucharist, which is also called the Blessed Sacraments, Holy Communion, the Mass and the Lord’s Supper.
“This feast is a very important one for the Church.
“It teaches the doctrine of transubstantiation, namely, that in the Eucharist, the wafer and the wine really become the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
“It is a day set aside to celebrate and remember Christ’s kingship over all creation as well as remind us that all humankind must submit to Christ’s rule,’’ he said.
