IKOLE (EKITI) – An Official of the Ikole Local Government Council in Ekiti has caution landlords and residents of Ikole, Ekiti and its environs against unhygienic environment.
Mr Tunde Famuyisan, Head, Environment Department in the council gave the warning on Friday while addressing some traders at Eleyowo market in Ikole, Ekiti State.
Famuyisan said that unhygienic living conditions was a fertile breeding ground for diseases.
He urged the people to give priority to oral hygiene in their daily activities, while ensuring that they cleared refuse from their environment.
“Ensure prompt evacuation of solid waste generated in the market to designated dump site and be a watchdog on other traders who may violate sanitary regulations in the market.
“The fight against the outbreak of cholera and other diseases associated with poor sanitary condition should be a collective
one,’’ he said.
He appealed to landlords who had yet to comply with the state government’s directive on provision of latrine in their houses

to do so to avoid being sanctioned.
Famuyisan decried the menace of open defecation in the community, saying that anyone caught in the act would not go unpunished.
He restated the council’s management commitment to improving the sanitary condition of the area through proper monitoring and sensitising of the populace on the need to imbibe hygienic living. (NAN)
