YENAGOA – Justice H.A. Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court in Yenagoa on Monday discharged a woman, Pikin Paul, 21, charged with possession of hard drugs.
Paul was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a two-count charge of possession 189.2g of heroine and 0.1g of cocaine.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Nganjiwa said that the case was struck out and the accused discharged because of the shoddy prosecution of the case.
According to the judge, the accused, who was arrested in 2012, had consistently been brought to court but the persistent absence of the prosecution compelled several adjournments.
He said that in view of this the court had no option but to strike out the case and the accused discharged.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Paul’s long drawn trial since 2012 has been without a defence counsel.
According to the charge sheet, the accused committed the offences on March, 21 2012 at Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa. (NAN)
