An Ilorin Area Court on Thursday dissolved a three-year-old marriage between Fausat Idowu and Akeem Idowu over alleged battering.

Fausat, 29, of Akerebiata area of Ilorin, had earlier prayed the court to dissolve her marriage to Akeem over incessant beating.

The petitioner told the court that her husband was too aggressive, and easily gets annoyed at the slightest provocation.

“My husband beats me unnecessarily, even at times with a big stick or his belt,” she said.

Fausat said the marriage was contracted in 2011 and was yet to produce any child.

“My Lord, I want an end to this marriage because I cannot continue to live with a man who behaves like an animal, and had turned me into a ‘punch bag’ anymore,” she said.

The respondent did not object to the prayer of his wife, saying she was free to go as it pleases her.

“My wife is too cunning and always thinks she is smarter than everybody on earth,” he said.

He prayed the court to grant the prayer of his wife without any delay.

The presiding judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, dissolved the marriage and issued a certificate of divorce to the petitioner. (NAN)
