Ado-Ekiti – An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court, on Friday dissolved a five-year-old marriage between Francis Adebayo and his wife, Roseline, for threats to life by the wife’s man friend.
The President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, observed that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and consequently dissolved the marriage.
Akomolede awarded the custody of the two children to the husband and ordered that the wife should be granted access to see the children.
Adebayo, 35, a resident of No. 58, Irona, Ado-Ekiti, had urged the court to dissolve the union for alleged lack of care, frequent fighting and for threats to life by the wife’s man friend.
He told the court that despite the fact that he provided foodstuff in the house, his wife would not cook for him.
The father of two said he opened a beer parlour for her and that was the cause of their incessant fighting.
He said there was a particular man, who always comes to her shop, saying his wife respects the man more than him and that the man always controls her.
The petitioner said that he quarrelled with his wife on the issue of his wife using a plate given to him by his mother to serve her man friend in his presence in her shop.
Adebayo claimed that after the quarrel, his wife’s man friend came to his house, beat him up and threatened him with razor spade.
The petitioner said that his wife deserted him with the two children and never came back.
He said that there was an occasion when his wife’s man friend with two other customers came to beat him up on the excuse that he invited police to raid her shop after she had left him.
Adebayo said since their marriage, his wife did not deem it fit to visit his parents and whenever the parents visit them, she would not attend to them.
He, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve the marriage and award him the custody of his children; Taiwo and Kehinde both two years and 10 months.
The respondent did not appear in court and the court, however, admitted the allegations levelled against her. (NAN)
