Kaduna – A Daura Road Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kaduna, on Thursday sentenced a 19-year-old labourer, Ashiru Musa, to one year imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Musa, who resides at Kabuwa Gadan Gaya, was convicted on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating, offences he admitted committing.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Sidi, said the prosecution proved the charges against Musa beyond reasonable doubt.
Sidi, however, gave Musa, N10,000 option of fine, and advised the convict to desist from committing crime, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Luka Yilgi, had said that the matter was transferred on Jan. 3, 2017, from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation.
According to Yilgi, sometimes in June 2016, the convict along with two others, now at large, introduced themselves to the complainant, Bala Safiyanu, as agent of bureau de-change.
The prosecutor said that the complainant then gave them N550,000, to convert to dollars for him, but instead of converting it for him, they absconded.
He said the convict, on March 23, 2017, called the complainant with an intent to defraud him for the second time, but the complainant alerted the police and the convict was arrested at his hideout.
The prosecutor said during police investigation, the convict confessed to committing the crime.
