ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – A constitutional lawyer and former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Abia State Government on Legal matters, Chief Valentine Offia has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other law enforcement agencies to order over flagrant disregard to court orders.

Offia made this call on Tuesday in Abuja, while speaking to journalists on issues of the moment, especially with the manner the anti-graft war is being waged to the detriment of the judicial arm of government.
He said that the fight against graft is a collective aspiration of Nigerians and “of course every responsible Nigerian supports the President’s resolve to ensure that looters of national resources are not only made to face the law but ensure that such looted sums are recovered”.
He however, advised that the EFCC must follow the law in all its activities and not arrogate to itself the law in itself.
According to him, observers of the EFCC’s operations will attest to its outright disregard to the rule of law and breach of the fundamental human rights of persons under its investigation.
Offia noted that “the use of defamatory criminal allegations by a government agency against a citizen involved in a mere contractual dispute with the government as seen in related cases is a sad in the relationship between the government and the citizens”.
According to him, “if a government that enforces law and order engages in such practice, where do we go if the enforcer of the law is now engaged in vindictive criminal enterprises against a citizen”.
