LAGOS – An Oshodi Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Friday remanded two men — Olalekan Yussuf and Waheed Hammed — at Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, over alleged theft of N177,000.
Yussuf, 22, a conductor, resides at No.31, Shodimu St., Somolu, while the address of Hammed, 29, an unemployed, is unknown.
The Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison after they had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 11 at 11.30 p.m.
He said the accused with two others still at large conspired and snatched a handbag belonging to Mrs Lynda Moni.
“The accused snatched the complainant’s bag from her when she wanted to board a bus to her house.
“The bag contained one HTC phone valued at N120,000, a Blackberry Bold 2 valued at N27,000 and N30,000,’’ he said.
Olatunde said that the accused fled the scene after the complainant had raised alarm which led to their arrest by passers-by, who gave them a hot chase.
He said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285 provides three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 410 stipulates a two-year sentence for conspiracy.
The case was adjourned till June 26 for judgment. (NAN)
