Benin – An Egor Magistrates’ Court in Benin, on Monday ordered the remand of Zakari Jidda and Chukwuemeka Peter-Nwakwuoghu in prison custody over alleged theft of telecommunication materials.
The accused persons were alleged to have stolen seven rolls of fibre cables, iron cover and MTN ducts valued at N10.9 million.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Igho Braimoh, ordered the remand of the accused persons after they pleaded not guilty to a two-count-charge of conspiracy to commit felony and stealing.
She said the accused persons should be kept in prison to enable the prosecution, Department of State Services (DSS), complete investigation on the matter.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till Jan. 18.
Earlier, the DSS prosecutor, Mr M. Obol had told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on July 23 at Egor in Benin.
He alleged that the two accused persons with others at large stole the telecommunication materials belonging to Telesupricon Nigeria Limited.

The prosecutor said the offences contravene Sections 516, and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code.
The sections of the law prescribe seven years each for anyone found guilty of contravening their provisions. (NAN)
