Modakeke (Osun) – A Modakeke Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Friday ordered the remand of a 22-year-old Seyi Gboyega, in prison custody over alleged armed robbery.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Ona Glory, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 14, 2015 at about 12:30 a.m. at Modakeke, near Ile-Ife.
Glory said that the accused, with others now at large conspired to commit the crime and while armed with dangerous weapons like cutlass and guns, they robbed Olatunji Ishola of N300, 000 and other valuables.
The accused pleaded faced a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery preferred against them, but their pleas were not taken and they had no legal counsel representing them.
He added that the offence was contrary to Section 6(b) and punishable under Sections 1 (1), (2), (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Vol 14, Laws of Federation, 2004.
Magistrate Bose Awosan said that her court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case and asked for the case file to be duplicated to the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), for legal advice.
Awosan remanded the accused in custody at the Ile-Ife Prisons, pending legal advice from the Office of the DPP.
