IKEJA – An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded in prison custody a maid, Mary Paul, 25, who allegedly masterminded the robbery and attempted murder of her employer.
The court also remanded Victor Egberem, 29, an accomplice of the maid, in the same prison.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Hamzat, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons, Apapa, Lagos, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The accused are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and attempted murder.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Roman Unuigbe, had told the court that the accused, with others now at large, committed the offences at about1:00 p.m. on April 13 at No. 23B, Ixora Drive, Abiola Gardens, Alausa, Ikeja.
Unuigbe said that the accused, who was armed with a kitchen knife and other dangerous weapons, attempted to kill Prof. Oluwole Abiodun, the maid’s employer.
He said that the accused tried to murder Abiodun by tying his legs and hands with a rope, covered his face, and gagged his mouth and nostril with a wrapper.
The prosecutor said that the accused stole one Ipad and cell phones worth N410,000, N20,000 cash, 120 pounds and 3,000 dollars from the complainant.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 1 (2) (a) (b), 5 of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, Cap 398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990, as amended.
He also said that the offences contravened Section 228 (1) (2), Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The pleas of the accused were not taken.
The case was adjourned till Sept. 25, for mention. (NAN)
